Housing & Family Support Program

Since 1981, Mary House has walked alongside more than 700 families — from the first moment of need to a place they could finally become home. This number represents more than units occupied — it reflects children who grew up with stability and belonging, parents who rebuilt their lives, and families who found their footing in a new country.

Housing is the foundation from which everything becomes possible.

Our Housing Continuum

Over more than four decades, we have grown from a single family home to thirteen sites with 56 apartments across the DC metro area — because the need has never stopped, and neither have we.

Mary House accepts families through referrals from trusted community partners.

Emergency Housing:   A place to breathe, to feel protected, and to begin again. With dedicated case management and wraparound support, families are never left to navigate that moment alone. Emergency housing at Mary House can last up to two years, for as long as it takes to find solid ground.

Transitional Housing:  Stability takes time. Mary House takes that time with you. Our transitional housing accompanies families for two to four years, providing the case management, legal support, employment resources, healthcare, and education needed to build a life that lasts. This is not a countdown to departure. It is a partnership toward independence.

Long-Term Supportive Housing: Some journeys take longer than others. Long-term supportive housing is designed for immigrant and refugee seniors and families navigating complex situations — those for whom stability cannot be rushed. Families receive a safe, affordable home alongside ongoing access to legal advocacy, healthcare, case management, and community support for as long as needed, often four years or more.

Affordable by Design

Housing at Mary House is designed to remove barriers, not create them. We are a program built around each family's path to independence, setting costs nearly two-thirds below the DC market rate so families can meet their obligations, build savings, and focus on what's next. For those facing the greatest hardship, rent is adjusted further based on need.

Wraparound Support

Housing at Mary House is never just four walls. Every family is paired with a dedicated family advocate — a consistent, trusted presence. Family advocates help navigate healthcare appointments, school meetings, legal proceedings, employment resources, and more, ensuring that families have both the practical support and the human connection they need to move forward.
